This modernizedBoucherouite comes fromIja who belongs to the association butis quite camera shy.Naima, pictured, who is the leader of the association informed us about Ija’s weave.

TheBoucherouite (pronounced boo-shay-reet) weaveis typically madeup of various recycled clothing and textile scraps. In this specific rug, Ija updated this weave byincorporating wool that has been carded & brushedbut not spun.

Using locally sourced plants to dye the raw wool, Ija used a combination of henna for the earthy reds and saffron for the vibrant orange.

This thicker, unspun wooljuxtaposed with the textile scraps as the base allows for adimensional rug that will add beauty to any home.
