M’rirt’s Speckled Gold Checkered Hand-Knot

Description

This rug was handwoven by a collective of 25 artisans based in a village just outside Beni M’rirt, in Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains.

The group is led by Soukina, whose late mother, Keltouma, founded the association in the early 2000s. Specializing in medium to high hand-knot rugs—a style named for the region—the artisans use a traditional thick-knotting technique that gives each rug its signature plush feel.

Crafted from 100% live sheep’s wool, this piece reflects both the skill and heritage of the Beni M’rirt weaving tradition.
