Soumaia is from a small village50 km north ofTaznakht. The villagewhich is home to 80 families has nurtured the art of weavingthrough theirelders, passing the skills down from generation to generation.

Soumaia learned how to weave from her mother and created this vibrant runner a little over five years ago.

Madeof100% wool from the sheep of the village, Soumaia and her mom carded, brushed and spun the wool by hand.They then used local plants, spices and herbs to dye the wool.

Woven with intricate detailmany of the symbols within the rug are thought to represent protection from evil in the Amazigh culture.
