Fatima’s Magical Vintage Boucherouite

Description

This rugwas woven byFatima who resides in a village 20 km outside ofAmizmiz which is based in the Al Haouz Province of Morocco.

Saida and her sister have recently started a village association of women weavers to help their elder neighbors sell their beautifully handcrafted rugs.

Fatimalives in a neighboring village and made this vintage Boucherouite (pronounced boo-shay-reet) decades ago. This Boucherouiteis made of recycled yarn and wool.

This timeless piece represents generations of tradition and symbolism. For example the symbolsin the middle represents aspider which symbolizesfertility andmagic in the Amazigh culture.

These rugs were not originally intended to be sold as they were mostly used in the weavers’ own homes.
